Rewire your mind to feel calmer, more present and at peace
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is what we experience when we are worried about something that may or may not happen in the future. Anxiety is present when our minds believe, either on a conscious or unconscious level, that there is a threat on the horizon that we need to respond to.
Some people feel anxious about a specific event in the future that they know will be challenging like an interview, a difficult conversation or a redundancy process. For others, anxiety feels more like a day-to-day experience where they feel overwhelmed a lot of the time and there’s an unnamed sense of dread of what’s to come.
What are the most common symptoms of Anxiety?
Here are the anxiety symptoms that I see most often:
- Over-thinking and over-planning.
- Planning for the worst scenario or catastrophising.
- A racing mind and/or heart.
- Shortness of breath.
- A tight chest.
- A red face.
- A sick feeling in the stomach.
- Sweaty palms and feeling hot.
These symptoms arise from the body’s ‘fight, flight or freeze’ response, which is the way humans have responded to imminent threat or danger for thousands of years. This response is still really useful for short, sharp bursts of fear when if we needed to respond quickly to real danger like quickly swerving from a possible crash or running from a burning building.
In the case of anxiety however, there is no short, sharp, imminent threat to life but the anticipation of something that ‘might’ happen. This is why anxiety can cause so much frustration; the symptoms are unhelpful, unnecessary and can cause us to avoid situations that would lead to greater happiness like speaking up at work, applying for a promotion or taking a new direction.
How QCH Therapy and Coaching can free you from anxiety
QCH Therapy has been shown to have a 71% recovery rate for anxiety and depression in an average of 4-6 sessions, compared to 42% for other approaches like CBT. You can read the outcome of the pilot study here.
My 1-1 sessions are always tailored to your specific needs. When we work together there are 3 main areas of focus to resolving anxiety:
The root cause(s)
Symptoms of anxiety often come from:
- Negative beliefs about our ability to cope or withstand difficulty e.g. “I can’t do this”, “I’m weak”, “I’m not capable” or “I’m not good enough”.
- Events that happened in the past (particularly in childhood), that created a sense of ‘I’m not safe’ in certain situations. Sometimes this arises from events we would typically associate with trauma and it can also be triggered from events that may seem less serious from an adult’s perspective.
In my sessions we uncover the root cause of your symptoms, release and reframe it. Addressing the root cause is much more efficient than looking at the surface symptoms. You can feel better more quickly and find that you’re feeling calmer and balanced without really thinking about it.
Enjoying the present
If we work together, I’ll equip you with a toolbox that interrupts and weakens symptoms of anxiety if they occur.
When you know you’ve got a toolbox up your sleeve that you can rely on to feel calmer and more confident, you feel more empowered to be in the present, ready for whatever comes next.
The tools I teach for feeling calmer range from EFT/‘Tapping’, somatic or breathing techniques or powerful visualisations. I have a lot of tools to draw on, so we can make sure we find the ideal ‘go-to’ technique that works for you.
Creating your Calmer Future
Whenever I work with someone, we work towards a permanent change rather than a quick fix.
I help my clients create a calmer future by coaching them to make the practical, lifestyle changes they need to make to feel more peaceful in their day-to-day life.
Just like a plant needs water and sunlight, there are things we need as humans that we often neglect. I’m here to offer the support and accountability you need to truly thrive.
